Research for Youth, Music and Education

You will find a basic introduction to what RYME (Research for Youth, Music and Education) is about in our About Us section of the website.

Here is a little more information about what we are doing:

Youth Music Engagement – Youth Participating in Musical Activities

Youth music engagement is about youth participating in music activities in school or in the wider community in a meaningful way. Not all youth are engaged in music activities to the same extent or in the same way. Some may show an interest in an activity by simply being involved. Others may take a leadership role by bringing others to the activity or by helping to organize or advocate on behalf of the activity.  More research is needed to understand the impact of various music activities on the lives of young people. What makes different forms of music engagement meaningful for different youth in different contexts? We also need a better understanding of how youth get involved in different music activities in the first place (initiators), what helps to keep them involved (sustainors), and what positive outcomes and benefits they derive from being involved.
